Roland lightweight Synth w/88 keys & full soundset?

Post by louparte »

Is there a Roland synth that is lightweight (<25 lbs), has 88 sem-weighted keys & a full synth patch set & reasonably priced?

I've been looking for one and I can't find it.

I had an RS9 and I liked it a lot because it fit that description. It's 9,000 miles away from where I live now.
So I'm shopping for a replacement.

It looks like Roland (or any other synth company) doesn't make 'em like that anymore.

I think the cost of that instrument would be more than a 9000-mile roundtrip to return the RS9 :-)

All 88-key instruments I know have hammer action keys now, so weigh quite a lot.

I don't know. In America, they make me pay for the baggage too.

I would love to bring my RS-9 back. It is a very under-rated synth.
I looked at an FP4 digital piano. It weighs 10 lbs more. But it is light.
It has a GM2 soundset - not as good as the RS-9 but ok.

It has no arpeggiator or knobs. And it costs $500 more than the RS9 cost new.
But it is the only keyboard on the market close to what I need. All of the others
are too heavy.

I wish it had knobs. The Roland pre-assigned knobs are very useful for
controlling sound modules.

I just got a nice Z-stand for my RS-9 that was sitting in the closet for the last few years (using my X-station for live work as it has everything in one package). I do miss the 88-key range and will have this baby back up and running in my home studio soon. The sounds were not bad as well (XV-sound engine I recall- but very limited in programability). I will likely just use it to control Alicia's Keys. I think I still run that Yahoo groups RS user group (hahaha- tells you how long it has been since I logged in). You might want to pop in there and see if anyone is willing to sell theirs.
