XP80 : Disk drive replacement/not working

Post by Camaro »

I have an old XP80 i use mostly for fun. But i want it to work properly. My disk drive is not working anymore. I tried to replace it, but the new drive did not work, and when trying another diskdrive it reads my disk but it says "wait a moment" in the display all the time. Is there a special disk drive I need in XP80?

was this a floppy disk drive? if so, would it matter to have the 800K version vs the 1.2M or even the 1.44 double density version? or watever it was. i remember those had 2-3 capacities.... worth a look?

Yes. it is a floppy. It is a 1.44 double density. In a video on youtube a guy says the floppy drive is a standar PC floppy disk drive. But i have no luck trying a standar floppy drive in XP80. Maybe something else is wrong inside XP80

I knew I had read something about this topic on this forum.

This guy found a pretty long list of compatible floppy drives (because all PC floppy drives are not created equal), and the last post has a link for setting up a floppy drive to USB emulator.

Good luck with your repair.
