I've been on this for several hours now so I'm obviously missing something basic.
Setup:
- A300 and MKS-30 are both second hand but new to me
- A300 Powered via USB
- MIDI cable plugged into MIDI out of A300
- Then plugged into MIDI in of MKS-30
- A300 set to MIDI channel 1
- MKS-30 set to MIDI channel 1
But nothing transmits - I've tried:
- Triggering MKS-30 with GI-20 Guitar module which works
- OMNI mode on A300 (suggested for other issues, not sure what it does)
- Factory reset of the A300
- A300 sucessfully transmits MIDI via USB connected to Logic Pro X
- A300 shows velocity on LCD when keys are hit
I'm not familiar with 5-DIN MIDI setup (have basic USB MIDI & DAW knowledge) so sorry if this is easy.
Any helpwould be much appreciated.
Cheers
Ben
How to get A300 Pro to transmit on 5-DIN MIDI port [SOLVED]
Re: How to get A300 Pro to transmit on MIDI port (not USB)?
OK, so while Roland states everywhere that the power adapter is optional, it actually isn't if you want to use 5-DIN MIDI. I'd seen the diagram on page 72 but read the info differently - basically, you can't use USB and 5-DIN MIDI at the same time it would seem.
Anyway, I used a 9V power adapter and now the A300 triggers the MKS-30 via MIDI - hope that helps someone.
