Problems with EXT INPUT
Problems with EXT INPUT
Hi gents.
I have a Juno DS 61. Wonderful sounds, quite satisfied with it.
When I use JunoDs with another keyboard, I plug the output from the other keyboard into the stereo EXT INPUT plug. In this way, I do not need a separate mixer. But I have two main problems:
1) No way to control external input gain or volume, it is fixed, no way to control it. It is passing through even when the JunoDs master volume is at 0 volume!
2) I have a very high volume (and hence distortion) of the signal with EXT INPUT. All the sound that passes through EXT INPUT is incredibly high volume! This makes EXT INPUT unusable.

Re: Problems with EXT INPUT
Have you looked in the manual? I do not have the Juno-DS but I looked up the manual, page 16 mentions mic input level under system settings.joelfan wrote:Hi gents.

Re: Problems with EXT INPUT
Of course I've read it.
I'm not meaning MIC input.
It is possible to control MIC input.
I am meaning EXT input, which is the LINE INPUT.
IT is not Controllable!

Re: Problems with EXT INPUT
same problem. I tried many times. if you connect this ext input with a cellphone/iPod
it’s fine. But with other device like keyboard/arranger, it will create unacceptable noise. So we need to buy another mixer? It’s a shame. Any solution?

Re: Problems with EXT INPUT
Is it really designed for this kind of use? Honest question. I've only used it for running iTunes or YouTube tracks into the DS to play along with for practice... I would think for multiple synths you want to run them into a mixing board (or an amp accommodating multiple inputs).
Re: Problems with EXT INPUT
I just found something like this. Impedance bar/stick. 75ohm is enough. It will greatly reduce the noise. please note that you have to put the impedance stick on the other synth/keyboard side.
Re: Problems with EXT INPUT
Yannleo, can you be more specific? What is this and where has to be put?
Re: Problems with EXT INPUT
It's called impedance transformer/cable or something. Search this in Amazon.com:joelfan wrote:Yannleo, can you be more specific? What is this and where has to be put?
ZY HIFI Cable HIFI Nvwa copper-silver top P to S ER4 Impedance Cable ZY-031 10CM
Maybe you can find something similar.
This is what I did with this: Connect impedance transformer to your synth with cable, on the other side put your cable into JUNO DS's EXT Input.
Please note the specification of impedance transformer. The resistance should be around 70ohm. If it's too much, like 200ohm, it'll turn down the volume a lot much.
Re: Problems with EXT INPUT
Ordered it.
Let me test and I'll come back.

I was planning of getting a junods88 and plug the nla1 to its ext input in order to route its sounds through the juno and eventually to a PC using the juno built in daw.
I admit this thread is concerning me a bit as I might now require a separate audio interface.
Have you had any more luck recently? did the conversion plug reccomended earlier help?
Many thanks
Luca
Re: Problems with EXT INPUT
It works Luke.
I bought the impedance reduction gear and it works!
It depends on what you insert in the plug.

that's great to hear, thank you!joelfan wrote:It works Luke.

Do you have a second keyboard going through it?
Since you have a setup similar to what I have in mind,
can I kindly ask if the audio from the 2nd keyboard is routed through the juno internal daw via usb to a pc?
as well as to both the juno's headphones and 1/4 outputs?
I'm planning to use my nord lead a1 + dual 1/4 to mini adapter + 75ohm impendance adapter.

Yes I have a second keyboard going thru.luckyluca wrote:that's great to hear, thank you!joelfan wrote:It works Luke.

Yes for headphone, Yes for 1/4 outs, I never tried to record via USB, I use it live, I think the answer is yes.

Re: Problems with EXT INPUT
Urgent: does it matter where I plug the adapter?
whether coming out from the nord lead A1 or coming in to the Juno DS88?
I was thinking of getting and connecting in this order:
nla1 out
1/4 to mini stereo adapter cable
impedance adapter
junods88 in

Re: Problems with EXT INPUT
Listen,it depends a lot on what type of istruments you are "merging" into JunoDs.
I had a korg M50, it was a mess, a lot of noise, too high volume.
Now I put a Casio PX5s, it's wonderful, no problem.
So, definitely, it all matters on impedance.
