Juno DS61 weird pitch-bend behaviour

Post by Astronautilus »

Hi everyone...

I'm new to this forum having just bought my first Roland for 25 years!

I'm seriously impressed with the feature list, but I'm just getting my head into the DS voice architecture and I have a question... some sounds like Strat Gtr 1 (GT:021) have a weird pitch bend behaviour; it bends upwards quite cleanly (as you'd expect), but bending downwards introduces cross-modulation which (IMHO) sounds awful.

My question is what parameter causes this behaviour?

And I guess my other question is why? ;-)

I'm surprised that no-one has come up with any suggestions in the two weeks since this was posted... doesn't anyone do any patch programming any more?!

Anyway, I found the answer in the patch's effects... not in the patch itself. On the Effect's MFX CTRL page, the Pitch Bend was set to change the Chorus rate. The resulting fast fluttering chorus sounds just like cross-modulation. It's an ugly effect, hence my puzzlement.

I haven't answered the 'why?' though. ;-)

Astronautilus, get used to the crickets and radio silence (are those mutually exclusive?) on this forum! Look at my post history for example... :)

That said, glad you found the cause of the weirdness.
