System 8 Sequencer

I have a question regarding the System 8 sequencer in performance mode.
I a performance patch set up with a keyboard split and 2 different sounds for upper and lower.
I have a sequence programmed for the lower split in performance mode and have set PLAY MODE to KEY TRIG so the sequence plays when when I hold down a key. The sequence only plays the lower split. The sound on the upper split is played manually.
The problem I have is the whole keyboard triggers the sequence in KEY TRIG mode.
I was hoping to just have the lower split assigned as the key trigger so that when I play keys on the upper split it doesn't start the sequencer.
I want only keys on the lower split to trigger the sequence.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
