System 8 and Protools

Looking for some assistance to get my System 8 setup and working in Protools 11. Seem to be having some issues. What is the best way to run it, USB or Midi? Can't seem to either to work. I would like to record either midi tracks or instrument tracks so that I can make edits. Of course I can record and audio track straight into the daw, but I would like to be able to edit the tracks after recording them. What am I missing? I know that this is all old gear, but I love working with it. Thanks in advance.
