updating from 1.01 to 1.02

I went to Roland's Support page, downloaded the file for the RD 2000 update and unzipped it.

I formatted a USB stick on the RD 2000, copied the unzipped files ... *.bin to the USB stick. jumped through the hoops - using the Update USB port, power off, pressing Write while powering on, no error messages.

There were five *.bin files on the USB stick; when I updated the RD 2000 it only showed 1/4 ... 2/4 ... 3/4 ... 4/4 ... Power off. This took several minutes to complete.

When I turned the RD 2000 back on and looked in Menu \ System \ Info I still saw 1.01.

There were no error messages. Should I assume anything or not?

The downloaded update (when unzipped) should show one .bin file. When the RD2000 starts the update it has 5 processes to execute hence the x/5 on the display. Each time it completes a section, the 'x' increments until 5/5 is reached. At this point it instructs you to power off then back on again. Check the software issue is 1.02 from the system menu.

I now know why I had problems.

I used the USB FOR UPDATE port to install the *.bin file when I should have used the MEMORY COMPUTER port.

I'm sure I won't be the only person to make this error.

I have since installed the 1.02 update and now Menu \ System \ Info shows 1.02 (0045).

It's academic now but the Update file I initially downloaded was unzipped into _five_ bin files. I sent those unzipped *.bin files along with a screen shot of my computer showing the properties of those unzipped files to a Roland technician. I went back the next day and Roland had changed that 1.02 update zip file to show only one *.bin file.

I also used the USB FOR UPDATE port of the RD 2000 which for the 1.02 update was the __incorrect__ USB port to use; I should have used the MEMORY COMPUTER USB port (as was mentioned in the Support page from Roland).

I have the Owner's Manual in front of me and it clearly states the USB FOR UPDATE jack is to be used to update the RD 2000. This is only going to cause more problems I think. :)

Perhaps Roland should make it even more clear in their Support page __not__ to use that USB FOR UPDATE port for the 1.02 update. I was informed by a Roland technician that the USB FOR UPDATE port will be used for future updates.

I'm sure I won't be the only person to use the USB FOR UPDATE jack\port for the 1.02 update
