It is not a common feature in digital pianos (though RD2000 is on steroids).

If you look at the user manual, you will not see any reference to aftertouch. If RD2000 had it, you would and I am sure Roland would do a LOT of noise about it. :)

My view is that aftertouch is more compatible with organ technique than piano technique, and thus is more useful on a keyboard with a semi-weighted waterfall or organ-style action. The Jupiter-80 has aftertouch.

I think that the importance of having aftertouch depends on the sounds you are using, the musical style, etc., and not on the keyboard.

The RD-2000 does not have aftertouch in the keybed, but it is an assignable function * , and some built in sounds respond to to aftertouch. I have only noodled around in organs and synth sound, since that is where I expected to find it. Some I have found that respond are:

Organs 270, 271. Some just seem to boost the volume, but two with interesting responses are 0787 Hot Coffee and 0788 Hot Sync.

The limitation here is that it is all or nothing for a zone, not individually controllable by key.

Agreed. The types of sounds for which aftertouch would be useful, however, are more amenable to organ technique, which is facilitated with a semi weighted keyboard action. That’s my view anyway.

I wouldnt expect to find aftertouch on any weighted board to be honest, though some do. On the flip side Id expect it on all unweighted boards, but a LOT dont have it these days.

I have spoken to both Roland and Korg about this - and the answer was "the industry doesnt believe its used that often - in surveys almost 90% of those questioned never used after touch".

I have to admit, I had it on my Fantom-S, my Korg X3 and others and never really used it more than once or twice.

While there is no aftertouch in RD keyboard action, just assign it to either Mod wheel 1 or 2 or better yet to an expression pedal. I use u-he Diva that has incredible CS80 patches that need aftertouch. While it would be nice to control directly from the keyboard, using a mod wheel or expression pedal works very well.
