The number are all over the place and it's not like its to group the sounds neatly.

Looks like another Roland afterthought to add some extra electric piano sounds in the Tine EP and SA EP categories. If you look at the tone list, everything else is in logical order except those two categories. Very weird and untidy. I increasingly get the feeling that they rushed this piano to market. As a product, It feels unfinished. Love the piano though!!

97% of the sounds are from the RD-800. They kept the same patch numbers for backward compatibility and added more sounds in the 2000+ range. The Axial expansion tones may be located in the 2000s too. Idk, I don’t have an RD-2000.

Thanks for the explanation xp50player, that makes perfect sense. As to the axial expansion sounds, they are given a letter prefix A or B according to which slot you use and are numerically 001 and upwards, so not in the 2000's. There is a separate button to access the expansion slots so they play no real part in the preset tone numbering structure.
I always understod that you could nonetheless edit a tone on a RD 700-800, is that true?
