I used a Kawai MP-7SE keyboard to access all the sounds on my Korg Kronos. ie. I could play my Kawai piano sounds and layer it with whatever I chose on the Kronos. Worked well in a gig setting.
The Kronos died and I found the VR-09 sounds were suitable.
PROBLEM: I cannot get the Roland to react to the incoming MIDI signal….tried sending on CH 1,5 and 6.
In Midi modes 1 and 2, I get a single piano sound…not what is selected on the VR-09. No sound if Keyboard Mode is selected.
Any advice or wise words would be appreciated!!

Be sure to download the MIDI Implementation manual.
Mode 1 will not do what you want (it only plays GM sounds).
In Mode 2, you must use either channel 3 (to play the Upper sound) or channel 4 (to play the Lower sound).
Keyboard mode doesn't care what channel you use, but will only (and always) play Lower sound. If you didn't have a Lower sound enabled, that's would explain why you got no sound.
