Duplicate Patterns and extend/copy loops

Post by czarmusik »

Hi all - just got a Fantom 7. Wondering if there is a simple way to duplicate the entire row and paste below in pattern mode VS having to copy each loop individually? Similar to how you can duplicate the entire row in Ableton or Bitwig.

Also is there a simple way to extend/Copy a 4 bar loop and make it 8, 12, 16 et al with the same notes? For example when doing drums you might want a longer loop to add cymbal or tom hits at the 7th bar or something but want the same pattern. I've tried to do this in the MIDI editing and it's not that smooth.

In short: select the patterns, build a group, export it, import it.

In detail...
Select all the patterns you want, press GROUPING in the SEQUENCER.
Select the GROUP among the 16 available (scroll using knob E1 or UP DOWN buttons below the jog wheel).
Press SET.
Answer OK or CANCEL.
Press GROUP button in the SEQUENCER.
Change Lenght to appropiate number.
Press UTILITY, press EXPORT.
See if want to Include Parameters.
Rename the file and choose destination.
Press EXECUTE.

Now we press PATTERN in the SEQUENCER.
Press PTN UTILITY in the screen.
Press IMPORT.
Search for the file saved previously and press IMPORT.
Set the starting anywhere from 1 to 999 by using E1, the jog wheel
or pressing button ENTER.
Set Lenght, set DESTINATION PATTERN
Press OK.

As for adding notes to a pattern, both piano roll and microscope are great as a way to edit.

In real time you can [record >mix] so that what was already recorded is being played while the new performance is added.

For example, scene A106:Electronic Space.
Press PATTERN button in the SEQUENCER.
Select A3 using > below the jog wheel.
See that it has 4 measures.
Press RECORD (red dot) in the sequencer.
Under REC DESTINATION in the screen select MIX.
Change Lenght from 4 to 7.
Press start.
Play when you consider appropiate.

See that LOOP REC SW can also be activated and you can record
more notes for as long as you deem it necessary.

UNDO is also there but by simply not saving the scene everything done will be removed and the scene kept as it was.

Try holding SHIFT and increase the number of bars in the piano roll edit.

You can also mark and paste your phrase in another location. Mark, hold COPY, use the arrows to choose the paste destination, release COPY.

About copying a row of patterns. I don't know a way. But I can imagine how simple it might be, if only a Roland code developer had a little bit of common sense.

There is a button marked as SHIFT. We all know it. We should be able to mark several patterns when holding this SHIFT. Then the COPY function would apply to the marked patters. Simple? Maybe too simple for a flagship gear. :)
