I blame Google!

I grew up in Texas, and the only Spanish I know would most likely get me kicked out of a Mexican bar. And of course, I have no idea how different the Spanish in Mexico is from the Spanish in Spain.

But that does make sense. I had some friends who had a pet Chihuahua that they named "Señor el Paro." Even I knew that came out as "Mr. the Dog" but nobody was interested in what a ten year old had to say. :)

BTW, the picture is beautiful. Is Segovia where you live, or in Burgos?

The cultural differences in the US are largely by region rather than individual states. You can think of the major regions as the west coast states (think California or Washington state), the northeast coast (New York, New Jersey, general new England area), the midwest (Chicago, Wisconson, Michigan, etc.), and then the bottom right hand quarter of the country that's generally thought of as "the South."

Of course, there's no such thing as a genetic race of Americans. The population is from everywhere you can be from, so add to the regional cultures whatever culture a family might have, or communities where people from a similar background group together. Even in those cases, if you live there long enough, you also start to absorb the regional vibe.

I live in Atlanta, and most of the states I've lived in have been in the south. I did love living in New York (Long Island), but like LA the cost of living is insane. I have some family in Texas but it's really not my frequency. Atlanta's a good bang for the buck. Not too expensive and decent wages.

The closest I have ever been to Atlanta is Roanoke, VA.

And the furthest, Mauritius.

Music makes people reunite.
