RE: Mod Wheel (dead-spot?)

Post by monsterjazzlicks »

Hi folks,

I updated my JP-X to v.2.0 this week.

I am really not sure if this is part of the design of the JP-X, but on some sounds - if I move the mod-wheel up to full and back down again (whilst holding down a chord) - the volume of the preset disappears (ie. no sound!) when the mod-wheel reaches home again. In order to get the preset to sound again I have to re-select the preset!

I have never experienced this ever before on any synth in 30+ years!, or witnessed it in any of the You Tube demonstrations I have watched to date. Maybe this feature (not that I like it at all!) is 'deliberate' on this particular synth? Also, I have not read any complaints elsewhere regarding this scenario so either:
  • it has been designed this way,
  • or else, there may be a fault with mine?
Many thanks in advance for any kind assistance offered here . . .

Best,

Paul David Seaman (UK)

I would send that to Roland support.

Ok, thanks. Although I'm still not totally sure if it is an actual fault because sometimes the S1 slider can bring it back in again. Yes, it seems to be quite unpredictable!

Did you simply try to INIT a SCENE, then recall the TONE you want in to see if it still happens?
I say that because a SCENE is nothing for me except if I program I-Arp in it.

Thanks, patriki.

Well I just "INIT a SCENE" and the mod-wheel started to 'modulate' the timbres (which is what it is supposed to do!) - rather than 'silence' the preset. And it remains in this condition for ALL sounds subsequently selected. However, of course, one you re-boot you are back to square one again!

I have always found Roland to be the easiest to get to grips with, but unfortunately, spending one hour per day on the machine does not seem to help with combatting the seemingly very steep learning curve.

Duplobaustein,

I now believe it is ME that is broken and not the machine!

Haha, that's always possible. My father always said, the problem is always 30cm above the gear. xD
