Latency using Jupiter-Xm as a controller of something else

Post by giacecco »

I am experiencing this issue. I have both the Xm (firmware 3.01) and an Arturia KeyLab 61 mk II controlling an external instrument (MPC X) using MIDI DIN. Using the Arturia, I can hear no latency between when I press a key and hear a note, using the Xm, some of the notes - not all - seem to lag for a fraction of a second.

The same does not happen if I use a Korg Modwave in the same way.

The Xm is setup to only send the notes out (System > MIDI > Local Sw is set to OFF) and the Soft Thru and USB-MIDIThru are set to OFF, that also should avoid strange complications.

Does it happen to you, too? Any ideas?

... and a short note to share that this wasn't solved with the new 3.02 firmware.

Hi, can anyone please at least tell me if my question was stupid or something? I really need to progress it 🙂

Alternatively, is there another forum for Roland users where there may be more active users I could exchange ideas with? Thanks!

... and, if you are curious, now I have a new synth that shows no delay (a Waldorf Iridium Keyboard) while the Jupiter Xm is still delayed :-(

I've illustrated the problem better - and with more detail - here https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/ ... sp=sharing . Really nobody has anything to say to help?!?! :-(

Hi giacecco, I'm sorry to say I can't offer any help for the solution, but other folks on this forum say that the Facebook groups are much more active. I don't do FB and I sure wish there was more user activity here, but that's life I guess :-)

Good luck!

Primo, if I was stumbling on something that's not covered by the FAQ...
https://rolandcorp.com.au/blog/jupiter- ... mate-guide
...I'd contact Roland support at Roland Backstage:
https://www.roland.com/backstage/
Answering customers question about problems with Roland gear is their job, which they do very well in my experience.

Secundo, for those of us who don't do FB, GearSpace has a pretty active Jupiter-X/Xm thread with a couple experts:
https://gearspace.com/board/electronic- ... -x-xm.html

Despite having some experts here too, Roland Clan is a low traffic forum.

On your first sketch, the MIDI Out signal is going through 4 devices, 2 being complex (Merge, Software based hw sequencer), before getting back to the MIDI IN of the Jupiter-Xm. Daisy chaining MIDI devices is not recommended beyond one or two THRU jumps:
https://gearspace.com/board/showpost.ph ... stcount=15

IMHO, the MPC-X should be the center of this setup, and do the MIDI IN/OUT routing, each synth being on its own MIDI I/O on the MPC.
So you could use any keyboard (w/local off) input to control any synth, directly.
I.e. better use a star or bus topology instead of a tree one.

Just a thought, though: did you switch OFF I-ARP, KEY and BEAT detection on all 4 parts?
