707: Resample through external fx

Post by 22tape »

Is it possible to, say, play a clip that is routed to one of the assignable outs, send it through outboard fx while simultaneously routing it back into the 707 and record it to a track without getting a feedback loop or having to set up any monitoring trickery?

Yes, I've done it using a vocoder on a vocal sample. You have to set the track output, and the track input when re-recording. Alternatively, connect a multifx unit as a Send/Return device, that also works. The internal sampling, however, recording the Mix Out, with everything you don't want muted, tends to be enough for me most of the time. Many new users to the MC707 think it only has 1 min of Looper RAM, but it has a stack of Sample RAM also, and you can resample a Looper, complete with FX, into the Sample RAM and then play it back on a drum pad on a different track. You can have 16 loopers sampled, 1 for each pad of a drum machine, and sequence them through your tune. But yes, external FX do work, just fiddle with the input and output tracks and you'll work it out.
