Wow, some places are selling the MV 8800 for $999. What's up with that? Is Roland discontinuing or is a new one coming out?

They are undercutting Akai now that the 2500 is winding down and the 5000 has (at least for now) stopped shipping. The 2500-SE isn't available in the US so it's an opportunity to to quicken Akai's exit from the hardware sampler market.
At 1K , the MPC-1000 and loaded 2500se are going to have a hard time making the case especially when compared A to B.
A new MV....not likely.

Akai are not pulling out of the sampler market. Check Thomann. They have 3 Akai samplers in thier top 10 sellers. They always sell well.
MV8800 is discontinued.

Do you have the "new" machine soon info from a reliable source or are you thinking a new machine is forthcoming?

The are really no hardware samplers of this type currently shipping in the US . Just like there are some MPCs left over there's MV's left over The 2500SE is the only sampler of this type shipping new and Akai is only selling it Asia and Europe. If you don't have a hardware pad based sampler this could be it for a while.
The 5000, 2500 (discontinued) and 1000 are not currently shipping so competition in the US at this moment is the remaining units. The $1k price parks the MV at the 1000's doorstep.
As far as a new machine, the Annual Report clearly states that there has been a sharp downturn in sales of hardware units both in Japan and the US. The economic climate doesn't support the idea of releasing a new upper line hardware machine anytime soon.

NNITRED - that message was just B.S. from start to finish. The MPC is not discontinued in the U.S. at all - not the 5000 the 2500 or the 1000. Thats total bull dude.
MV on the other hand has been discontinued but there is still stock available.
MPC sales going from strength to strength on all three models.
Why do people just make things up????

Sorry dude the hardware pad samplers are all but a memory. Akai didn't even have a single MPC at Summer NAMM 2010. They're closing the door on the <PC line -like it or not. Akai has shifted it's focus o controllers , DJ lines and , portable apps.
Akai still list the 2500 as current even though it's been dropped since last November. They listed the 5000 as "new" up until last May.
The hardware pad sampler is going into hibernation if not extinction. They had their decade of dominance-now it's over.
BTW- try finding a 2500 new at any retailer in the US.

Im gutted i opted for the MV over the 5000.
Workflow sucks. Build quality sucks. Its slow. Its ugly.

Boyaka2000, I was where you were when I first bought an MV. I found the workflow cumbersome, the build quality questionable, operations slow, and the thing was just ugly.
Fast forward three months, and what a turnaround. I now find its workflow unbelievably fast and intuitive, the build quality top notch, the operations lightning fast (except loading projects, of course!), and the thing is just the sexiest thing I have seen.
The difference? Taking the time to read the manuals - 3 months, mind you, discovering workarounds for its minimal bugs compared to any Windows or MAC based DAW and a few other Zoom standalone multitrackers, and simply giving myself time to get used to the workflow.
I made the mistake of assuming that the best machine was the one that would be easiest to use right out of the box. WIth that criteria, the MV blows. But change the criteria to determine that the best machine is the one that will serve you best once you truly learn how to use it, and you may find like I did that the MV stands alone.
As far as comparing it to the MPC, I'd say that's the closest competitor, but the 8 stereo audio tracks and VGA GUI of the MV give it the edge over the MPC's 8 mono audio tracks and lack of VGA GUI. (Not knocking the MCP by any means)
