You can back up all your MV's internal HD files via the USB1 port on the rear but that takes a long time if you still have the stock HD and the USB1 connectivity.
What I do is remove my MV's SATA HD, connect it to a SATA to USB3 cable (or if you have the old stock HD, use an 40 pin PATA to USB cable) and back up your files to a computer/laptop.

Since I have the HD out of the MV, I run diagnostics/defragmenting on the HD just to make sure it's in tip-top condition.

thanks! the thing is when i asked one guy today who i think is a specialist in computers, he said back up should
be done with a command inside sampler's OS.
and if i understand what you say correctly - you say back up should be done manually, right?
so what should i do? simply manually copy all the folders with files from mv to PC?
and nothing else after that? i mean when first time i turn it on with new HD installed - will it just start working (will i have to reinstall MV's OS again?)

and the second question - you say you have SATA hd in mv, you mean you have sata to ide connector?
if so does it work ok, are there any problems?

Backing up your HD doesn't have to be done manually but it will save you hella time doing that way (depending on how many files your have on the MV's HD) vs. the slow ass USB1 port connection on rear of the MV to a computer. Like some one said on MV Nation (paraphrasing)... "To kill time while you back up your files from then MV's USB1 port, go and thoroughly read the MV manual until all files and done being saved. You will kill 2 birds with one stone by learning your MV a little bit more while backing up your MV's HD"

Yes female SATA to male PATA/IDE "adapter". 2 years later and I still don't have any problems. Also with using the 2.5" laptop HD you have less heat and less noise.

Yes a 7200RPM HD (either 3.5" Desktop HD or 2.5" laptop HD) will work in the MV8000. But... with the 3.5" desktop HD, I did experience a more noise when the HD was spinning up and it got extremely warm (the reason for my MV fan mod on YouTube... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEwbxuhiHzQ. Shameless plug :-) ).
The 7200RPM 2.5" laptop HD wasn't bad as the 3.5" HD as far as noise or increased heat since that's the reason the laptop HDs are built that way for confined laptop spaces. But you will need an 3.5" male to 2.5" female IDE/PATA adapter to use a laptop HD in the MV8000. The MV8800 already has a 2.5" laptop HD installed in it.

thank you very much!
i have already bought 7200 HD (desktop pc one), because i didnt know these things.

so, how does it go?
first i copy and paste data from mv's old HD to pc, after that i move this data to new
HD, then i install new HD into mv,
then turn on the mv, and it just works?

and one more thing if i do everything without back up,
and simply remove old HD and install new one,
what happens when i turn on the mv?
will the system offer me to install OS?
i just dont know the OS installation process

The MV can run without HD at all, the HD is for storing projects and samples, so the OS is in MV's internal memory. Before putting back your files you need to format the HD in the MV (disc/usb > utily > format, you may need to remove the format protection in global system settings). After that you can move your files by usb, or remove the HD and do it on the pc, then put it back in the MV.

Thanks for the info man! Have you noticed any difference in the save/load processes with the SATA HD?

Since you have a desktop HD, remember to add a jumper connection to the specific pins to set the HD as "Master".

I haven't really noticed a time difference with my SATA HD or with a SATA SSD that I tried.
I've meant to do a time comparison video with different HDs set up in the MV but I've been too busy at work.

Ok, thank you!
Apparently it's the MV's processor that is slow, but actually it's not a big deal.
If there is a way to speed up the MV that's will be cool! If not, it's not a problem :)

Usually it's marked on the HD how to set it as master.

Here is a video that may help you
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ds1-JmbhGRM

Here is a video that show the 8800 HD upgrade, but the principle is the same as for the 8000
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkONaI6uQus

You just need to open your MV and you'll see how to set it up! :)
