New to the MV-8800 family

Post by gwiz »

I just picked up an MV-8800 from a local pawn shop. I'm in the process of checking things out. I have downloaded the manual and will spend then next couple of days going through it. I got the Pawn Shop to give me a 48 hour return policy. I am looking for advice from experienced users on what to look for and what could be a possible problem common to the MV machines that I can inspect in the next 24 hours. ALso I have heard about some must have additions to the equipment. It seems that I have the R bus digital I/O card. What else are the other add-ons.

thanks

Check how much ram you have. Hopefully it's 512. If you do have the expansion then you struck gold. To do a systems check. Press and hold F3 button and menu button while turning the MV on. This puts it in diagnostic mode where you can run a battery of tests to determine any problems with the unit.

Welcome!

Verify that you have the latest OS 1.01 installed... http://www.rolandus.com/products/mv-8800/downloads/

When you use a monitor and the mouse port, it opens up more options than just using the little built in screen.

For more info on your 8800, read the workshop PDF's... http://www.rolandus.com/products/mv-8800/support/
