Mouse

Post by drmnaga78 »

Just bought a mouse for mv8000, when I go into the system to set up the monitor and mouse it say 'no mouse connected'. It has power running to the mouse as the optical light illuminates. I was wondering if due to the age of the mv8000 it needs an old school roller ball mouse. Does anyone know, does a optical mouse work for you? Cheers

IIRC the 8800 shipped with an optical mouse. Dunno about the 8000.

Looking at the promo when they added the mouse connectivity on the 8000 it was an optical mouse it shipped with. Which is cool because the means I don't have to search out a ball mouse, but is shit because the optical mouse I bought doesn't work!

There are some optical mice that work but they are hit or miss.
Plus you you need a use a PS/2 to USB adapter with the USB mice on either MV's.

Thanks Juke, managed to get it to register that the mouse was plugged in by wriggling it, although it doesn't actually work, can't see a cursor on the screen. Might try some contact cleaner in the socket, maybe another mouse and if that doesn't work try swapping out the port, only a couple of £ on eBay. Just thought I would look at how much it would be for a replacement mv8-vga expansion, shocking what people charge for them!

Update. Took the VGA port out, sprayed some contact cleaner in the port, tweeted the pins in the end of the PS/2 mouse plug to make sure they would make contact in the port, put it back together, fired it up, all working now :)

For future reference...
I bought more female PS/2 to USB connectors (6 for $8 on ebay) since my optical USB mice that used to work on my MV8800 and 8000 but now they don't. The USB optical mice GREAT with the new PS/2 connectors!
