connecting mc-909 and mc-505

Post by vaomaar »

I got both of them and my question is what are possibilities when I connect them together via midi cable? I presume that I cannot save mc-505 sounds in 909s sequencer and vice versa.I got some nice patterns in 505 which I want to transfer to my 909.how can i copy midi file from my 505 to 909?thnx.

**First! you can not copy MIDI Files from the Roland MC-505 to your Roland MC-909...because they each have there own operating system...and are different designs. The Roland 505 Patterns and Patches are not compatible with the Roland MC-909. The Roland MC-505 SmartMedia cards are also of a different voltage like the MC-505 uses 5volt and the MC-909 uses 3.3volt, and use a different format to that of the newer machine. Sorry I had the same idea too.**

- But there is hope !

Yes there are some ways you can MIDI connect them, is looking at the setting section on your [Roland MC-909 Manual Pg. 127 Sequencer/MIDI] and then on your [Roland MC-505 Manual Pg. 171 Chapter 16 Advanced Applications]

Or you can, simply just copy the sound output connection from the Roland MC-505 into the sound input connection on the Roland MC-909 and sample the pattern from the Roland MC-505 onto your Roland MC-909 pads..[turn your samples into a sample loops or into a patch]...then Setting a Sample’s BPM timing on that samples as a loop. Do this to each pattern, Look at your [Roland MC-909 Manual Pg.116 Sample Parameters]. This is so you have complete control over your Roland MC-505 sampled loops. Also play with your Roland MC-909 MATRIX CONTROL Nob..check in your [Roland MC-909 Manual pg. 68 MATRIX CTRL#] also read more about Patches in [Roland MC-909 Pg. 58 Patch Edit].

Try getting from the Roland Corporation US web site
also there - "MC-909 Getting Started Guide" pdf file free download. location: http://www.rolandus.com/uploads/CMS/Dow ... tarted.pdf

also if your missing both your Roland MC-505 & Roland MC-909 manual you can get the pdf file from here:

I luv this subject eventhough the last posts are almost 2 years old =)

None the less I´ve trying to connect those two machines together for about 2 weeks and now after talking to Roland (4 Emails, 3 calls) we came to the conclusion that those 2 only go together with an EVENT PROCESSOR.
I bought me one from MIDI Solutions in Canada...thanks John Fast from that Company who also helped me on that project via email.

The main problem was that it did´nt matter which way I tried it just connecting the 909 with the 505 via midi, there were always midi data being thrown over eventhough I did´nt want it.
I just wanted them to START/STOP/CONTINUE & TIMING CLOCK EVENTS... no less and no more.

Well with an Event Processor that works very fine and even very easy to setup as well --> http://www.midisolutions.com/prodevp.htm <-- just in case noone has heard of that gadget till this day =)

Oh, I almost forgot...I just registered and like to say HI to all of you out there from Germany
