Hammerhead?

Post by thunderkyss »

On your Jupiter-80, what are the basics of that sound?

Oscillator settings, filters, structure, that kind of stuff. Let's say I wanted to recreate that sound on another synth, how would I do it?

If it's not too much trouble, I'd appreciate if someone would look real quick. I really like that sound.

It would really all depend on what synth you were to attempt to recreate it on... Sorry but the architecture of a DX7, a Minimoog, a Wavestation, a Prophet, a Virus, a Triton, etc... Are just so vastly different it's impossible to address your question. Easy answer is get a Jupiter 80

Probably what I need to do.

However, I've got a plethora of stuff to work on, hardware wise & softsynth wise.

Is it a two oscillator sound? Three? SuperSaw?

Most likely goes through one LP filter with an envelope, one amp with an envelope.

I could manage that with a Fantom, or Massive, surely something in Reaktor.

I'm not home now but I'll check on my Jupiter 50 if that helps and report back later.

I know it's 3 different bass patches playing at the same time, so I'm guessing it's between 3 and 5 oscillators being used.

Could be late tomorrow before I get online again. Maybe I'll even tear it apart and try to recreate it in Massive or something for fun.

I screen capped the ipad editor's settings for all of the tones. The LFO section is shown once for each tone layer, because it is all the same and only has to do with some pitch movement with the mod wheel.

Here are a few things the ipad doesn't show:

Effects for the 1st 4 layers, along with their levels (all tones have the same send to the effects)-

#46 Mod Delay - 110
#04 Low Boost - 110
#23 Chorus - 120

The Analog feel for Layer 3 in the 1st 4 layers is set at 15. "Analog Feel" adds some unpredictable movement in the pitch and filters. All others had 0 Analog Feel.

The Lower and Solo parts (RnB Bass 7 and 4) are pitched up 1 octave.

I have audio recorded of each individual tone, along with the whole thing combined, but I may not be able to upload it until I get internet set up at my new home on the 15th.

Good luck! I know this isn't a complete step by step on getting the sounds, but I hope it's useful in your attempts.

And there you have it folks, Hammerhead as it appears in the iPad JP Synth editor. I will try to get the audio of each tone individually played on C3-6 so you can loop in a DAW and try to use your ears to guide you around the 15th of the month.

The main sound comes from the 1st 4 layers shown, which are a sound called "Tail Fin."

The other tones are the RnB basses and they are pretty quiet and add some extra fullness with their higher pitch.

If you want to get real close I would start with the Tail Fin live-set.

Oops the photos are all out of order!

Ok the "TailFin" live set is the tones where ALL 4 layers are lit up in Blue. The Lower and Solo parts are the ones that only have one blue layer lit up.

If nothing else looking at it all is a good reminder of how powerful the Jupiter 80/50 is. I made an evolving pad once that uses all oscillators available in the synth, and it sounds HUGE.
