How did you fix it?

I can't get the MX-1 to output audio from the Mac at all. I have installed the driver and configured it according to the driver README. Selecting the MX-1 as output device results in... silence.

I too am baffled at why Audio isn't coming out of my mac and into the MX-1 (although the original post sounded like DAW was working and just not system sound until whatever that fox was).

My MX-1 is in mixer mode. I can definitely hear instruments routed to the inputs through the headphones. I installed the OS X driver, open Reason or Live and set the audio output device as the MX1 and nothing, from documentation is sounded like this was meant to route out the 'PC' channel but a silence.

Any at all suggestions are greatly received

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. I'll try that tonight, if I could just get the DAW working I could live without the rest of the system sound until they undoubtedly release an update for either the firmware or the driver to resolve the expected initial teething issues.

I have ti say, the manual for the MX-1 is utterly pathetic. Usually those quick start maps based around a graphic of the unit is supplemented by some form of actual manual, the only additional thing I can find to what came in the box is an addendum talking about using the unit in external mode. For a device that has some complex routing possibilities and uses I really think they could have done much better documentation or even some tutorial videos

Yes, I have also concluded that the Mac driver is broken. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. A major part of the appeal of the MX-1 is interfacing with a computer.

I wish Roland had an official channel for submitting bugs. They could learn a lot from Dave Smith Instruments / Moog.

Just to follow up on this one, I eventually got the MX-1 working as audio output on my Mac. It was not a driver issue, but rather a driver configuration issue. The stereo output on the MX-1 is locked to channels 17/18. The MX-1 manual specifies setting the output for the device in the OS settings to these two channels (17/18). However, this is not enough. Each specific application must also be set to these two channels to get any sound. This means each application must support assigning audio to specific channels, which rules out most non-DAW applications.

Some here have reported using the MX-1 as output for the browser etc. I can't get that working for the above reason. It is weird that Roland did not configure the MX-1 as an output source by default, to be compatible with most applications, since DAWs can be configured to use any channels for input anyway.

So this is my first post here and I know this thread is REALLY old but this was the first thing I found on Google when I ran into not being able to get audio from the Mac into the MX-1.

As stated you need to use channels 17/18 but I couldn't figure out how to get this configured. Turns out its in the Audio MIDI Setup...

1. Click on MX-1 on the left
2. Click on the Configure Speakers button in the lower right corner of the window
3. Select "stereo" under configuration if its not selected already
4. Select channels 17/18 in the Left/Right dropdowns

I found this on zendesk where Roland apparently has some help stuff but it wasn't the first thing I got from Google so putting this here in case anyone comes along like I did.

So what are the purposes of the other Channels?

Setting - 17/18 - as output channels is also required in Reason. FYI, not sure about other apps.
