Make the Windows 7 driver working on Windows 8 or 8.1

Post by eXim82 »

Hi there

I want to help to let the MC-808 work in Windows 8 or 8.1 environment as MIDI device (also to work with the editor).

1. Download the Windows 7 32 and 64 bit driver: http://www.roland.com/support/article/? ... s&p=MC-808
2. Extract the compressed file
3. Open the extracted folder and go to the folder Files\64bit\Files\ or Files\32bit\Files\. It depends on the OS Bit edition you have.
4. Open the File RDIF1064.INF
5. Replace now the following part:

For the file in folder "Files\64bit\Files\":

[Manufacturer]
%MfgName%=Roland,NTamd64.6.1,NTamd64.6.2

;[ControlFlags]
;ExcludeFromSelect=*

[Roland]
;; WindowsVista 64 or Windows XP 64
;; not supported

[Roland.NTamd64.6.1]
;; Windows7
%RDID0064DeviceDesc%=RDID0064Install, USB\VID_0582&PID_00A9 ; MC-808

[Roland.NTamd64.6.2]
;; not supported

REPLACE WITH

[Manufacturer]
%MfgName%=Roland,NTamd64.6.1,NTamd64.6.2,NTamd64.6.3

;[ControlFlags]
;ExcludeFromSelect=*

[Roland]
;; WindowsVista 64 or Windows XP 64
;; not supported

[Roland.NTamd64.6.1]
;; Windows7
%RDID0064DeviceDesc%=RDID0064Install, USB\VID_0582&PID_00A9 ; MC-808

[Roland.NTamd64.6.2]
;; Windows8
%RDID0064DeviceDesc%=RDID0064Install, USB\VID_0582&PID_00A9 ; MC-808

[Roland.NTamd64.6.3]
;; Windows8.1
%RDID0064DeviceDesc%=RDID0064Install, USB\VID_0582&PID_00A9 ; MC-808

For the file in "Files\32bit\Files\":

[Manufacturer]
%MfgName%=Roland,NTx86.6.1,NTx86.6.2

;[ControlFlags]
;ExcludeFromSelect=*

[Roland]
;; WindowsVista or WindowsXP or Windows2000 or Windows9X / ME
;; not supported

[Roland.NTx86.6.1]
;; Windows7
%RDID0064DeviceDesc%=RDID0064Install, USB\VID_0582&PID_00A9 ; MC-808

[Roland.NTx86.6.2]
;; not supported

REPLACE WITH

[Manufacturer]
%MfgName%=Roland,NTx86.6.1,NTx86.6.2,NTx86.6.3

;[ControlFlags]
;ExcludeFromSelect=*

[Roland]
;; WindowsVista or WindowsXP or Windows2000 or Windows9X / ME
;; not supported

[Roland.NTx86.6.1]
;; Windows7
%RDID0064DeviceDesc%=RDID0064Install, USB\VID_0582&PID_00A9 ; MC-808

[Roland.NTx86.6.2]
;; Windows8
%RDID0064DeviceDesc%=RDID0064Install, USB\VID_0582&PID_00A9 ; MC-808

[Roland.NTx86.6.3]
;; Windows8.1
%RDID0064DeviceDesc%=RDID0064Install, USB\VID_0582&PID_00A9 ; MC-808

7. Save the file
8. Now Start windows with Signed Driver Enforcement Disabled as follow:
- Open Charm Menu
- Settings
- Change PC Settings
- General
- Advanced Setup
- Click "Restart now"
- Chose now Troubleshoting
- Advanced Options
- Startup Settings
- Again click "Restart"
- Press 7
9. Now install the driver with the Device Manager in Windows:
- Press the Windows key and the X key together
- Select Device Manager
- Click Yes when prompted for permission from User Account Control
- Right-click the MC-808 entry and select Update Driver Software
- Click Browse my computer for driver software
- Click Browse and select the directory where the driver files are located
- Click Next
- When the warning appears, click Install this driver software anyway

Now your MC-808 should work on Windows 8 or 8.1

Thanks! This worked for me.

I just changed the compatibility mode in the properties of the exe in "Files\32bit\Files\". Ran the exe and then approved the install from the "Signed Driver" warning.

MC-808 needs to be in USB midi mode to finish the driver install and not in storage mode.
