I wonder what else got changed. Why dont they do a proper changelog? Sure changing 1 preset isnt much (altough i always wondered why SS 01 is Metal Pad) but they should inform the users imho.

Version history
[ Ver.2.00 ]
Please refer to the "FA-06 FA-07 FA-08 Functions Added in Ver.2.0 Manual" for detailed information in the [ Owner's Manuals: https://www.roland.com/global/support/b ... s_manuals/].
[ Additional function ]
Seamlessly Switching Between Multiple Sounds While Performing (Sound Remain)
Memorizing the Pad Mode for Each Studio Set
Using the [1] - [8] Buttons as Pads (Virtual Pad)
Using the FA as a Master Keyboard
Controlling Ableton Live from the FA
* In the current version of Ableton Live, "Roland FA" cannot be selected as the control surface. Providing support for this via an update to Ableton Live is planned. We are currently working with Ableton to proceed with preparations for support. (June 27, 2017)

The biggest change is to couple a number of sounds in a SS to one pad.

I hadn't noticed this but honestly I hated that stupid Metal Pad.

Actually I don't usually like the factory preset stuff so I set it to start on my own default SS (which happens now to be a bank of piano sounds....).

Maybe it reflects to a move of them trying to market the line more for performers than beatmakers. Especially if the 07 does in fact have a better keybed for performance.

I have to say version 2 for me has transformed this instrument, the ability to change sounds with keyboard groups is a game changer. I was about to sell this board and version 2 appeared and I was very surprised as Roland do not have a good history of supporting there workstations with updates and I have had all of them.
So thank you Roland for a great little versatile board it is fast becoming my favourite and I also have a Kronos, Montage, Stage 3 , moog little phatty, and prophet 12 , but ease of use and the features of using the pads to switch sounds is a great and well implemented idea I have not come across before and for playing live is invaluable. Over and out and yes they could do all sorts of other things but look at the price point before complaining about missing features yes its not built as well as some of the others but it sounds great to me!

Today I found out, that we can use the pads to select multiple partials in edit mode and now NEW:
If selected, up to four partials of a tone could be adjusted in a relation to their values.
So if you select Pad Mode - 6:PARTIAL SW/SEL and go to tone edit, you can select the partials of your choice (green pads) and be able to decrement or increment these values all together.
Very cool feature, saves time in many cases.
Shure this is new in Release 2.

Great new feature! I'm finding it much easier to stay in the pocket and less time messing around with my settings live.

I see Roland just dropped a whole bunch of new FA support videos on Youtube. If only this thing could multisample, I'd buy two of them! Maybe in OS 2.1????

Does anyone know what the sysex is for selecting a specific keyboard switch group? I've tried recording the sysex, and for each keyboard switch group pad I press, it spits out 16 different sysex strings, none of which I can make heads or tails with when comparing to the midi implementation manual.

Specifically, I'm looking for the second "address" and "address LSB" values (the data the keyboard spits out doesn't seem to jive with any offsets in the midi implementation manual)

Page 34 of the implementation manual "appears" to describe the address offset and data for keyboard switches, but this is not what the keyboard is actually outputting. As I type this, I realize page 34 is likely just selecting the keyboard switch for each part of a studio set.

I'm wondering if the sysex either a) wasn't implemented correctly or b) isn't described correctly in the midi implementation manual or c) isn't documented at all. I realize I could just copy the sysex that the keyboard spits out, but I would also like to understand what it is doing, and so far I can't make sense of it.

It seems like a single keyboard switch group should be able to be activated by a single sysex string. Thanks in advance for anyone who can offer any wisdom in this area.

Didn't Roland update their manuals on the Release 2 OS?

Yes - however they don't appear to include any syses for selecting keyboard switch groups

The switch groups are sending direct SysEx data to enable/disable each of the 16 parts - it's not addressing which Keyboard Switch has been pressed. i.e. it operates like a macro.
