Fantom G8 with Garageband and External Instruments

Hi, I'm trying to hookup my bass through the Fantom G8 into Garageband. I was wondering if this is possible and if anyone knows how to hook it up. I'm getting input from the keyboard into my tracks but garageband isn't picking up the bass at all.

Have you got the Mix in active and routed to the input from the bass? I have had an XP-80 and a VG-8 both connected to the Fantom but have to switch the mix in input to select which is then passed through the USB to GarageBand
