Bug? VPiano octave shift in a Scene
Bug? VPiano octave shift in a Scene
Hi all,
Just got my Fantom 6 today. I have a FA06 and a Kronos and some other "axes".
Anyway, I'm starting to replicate my FA06 StudioSets as Fantom Scenes. It's slow going so far. In particular, I want a Piano + Pads with a VPiano. But the Octave Shift on the 1-Zone View and the Zone Edit -> Pitch pages seem to make a different for Zen-Core sounds but not for VPiano. Can anybody confirm this on theirs?
Version 1.04, Build 00.82
Thanks!
Mark

Yes there is a bug, I discussed this with Ed from Roland on Facebook. I think this sorted in the next OS update.
Re: Bug? VPiano octave shift in a Scene
I've just been using Zen-Core PCM Piano's when I need to octave shift, then when the OS is updated I'll swap the pianos out.. some of the PCM pianos are too bad, for my use anyway.
Re: Bug? VPiano octave shift in a Scene
Thanks for the confirmation.
The tangential problem is that with the PCM piano I'm hearing extensive voice killing! I've got a piano and a pad and a string sound. Going to look into it, but it is very similar to a Roland FA studio set that does not behave the same way.

Re: Bug? VPiano octave shift in a Scene
Ah, may have found the issue. On the Fantom in Zone Edit --> Mono/Poly is a "Hold Type" that can be "STACK" or "LEGATO". "STACK" seems to hold old repeated notes if replayed and eat the polyphony quickly. So if you hold the sustain and play a lot of repeated chords you're going to get audible voice killing. Switching to "LEGATO" made it sound like the FA in this regard.
Phew.
(Surprised that STACK seems to be so common of a setting...)

Re: Bug? VPiano octave shift in a Scene
Ack! Didn't find it! In "LEGATO", let's say you play a middle-of-the-road C chord and hold it with sustain, then after releasing but still sustaining hit a low C after a while... the chord disappears (even with plenty of polyphony).
I'm sure there's a way to make the voicing work as well as in an FA...
From the parameter guide:
STACK
Hold all notes for which a key-off occurs
while the Hold pedal is pressed (while
CC#64 had a value of 64 or higher).
LEGATO
Hold notes for which a key-off occurs
while the Hold pedal is pressed (while
CC#64 is 64 or higher) until a new key-on
(single note or chord) is input.
Just need a way for retriggered (same) notes to kill the old ones in STACK mode.

Re: Bug? VPiano octave shift in a Scene
Adjusting the "Voice Assign Mode" to SINGLE helps, but also does not fully resolve the problem. However, also increasing the Voice Reserve on the Piano makes the voice stealing much less obvious because it isn't happening for the most obvious part of the Scene.
"Voice Assign Mode"
Specifies voice assignment when the same key is played
repeatedly.
SINGLE The previous note is silenced each time
the same key is played repeatedly.
LIMITED
When the same key is played repeatedly a
certain number of times, the lowest-level
of the notes sounding at the same pitch
is silenced.
FULL
Even when the same key is played
repeatedly, it is sounded within the limits
of available polyphony.

The V-Piano still cannot be shifted by octave in a Scene.

Re: Bug? VPiano octave shift in a Scene
It's not just octave shift. You can't do *any* pitch adjustments to the VPiano in a scene (other than a master transpose at the system level). I tried to go in and change the pitch of a split and it won't recognize any changes.
Re: Bug? VPiano octave shift in a Scene
This has now been rectified in the BETA OS, can now octave shift the Vpiano.

Great, that’s actually one good reason to upgrade.

Re: Bug? VPiano octave shift in a Scene
Can you single step transpose or just octave? And can you check to see if you can do it both ways: Zone Edit (under the Pitch tab) and with the hard buttons, both single step and octave?theshine wrote:This has now been rectified in the BETA OS, can now octave shift the Vpiano.
