[I'm using the new OS v1.23 done with a 128MB SmartMedia Card first], on my MC-909 , ***I already try to see if its possible to update using these cards adapter...sorry it won't work....I suggest to try to still get the 128mb OLYMPUS SmartMedia Card, have at lease two of them, just in case for future use...there still available in alot of camera shops.....you just have to hunt for them online or even check on http://www.ebay.com/***

OLYMPUS SmartMedia Card (128MB) Mfr Part Number# (200753)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, it's possible to save more than 128MB on a xD card,
I tested with several xD cards on the Market available today in 2006 & 2007, which was confusing cause I tryed to reference with the Olympus E-20P Camera info,...."Ok to make this simple and not to technical": the 128MB SmartMedia cards writes speed at 3MB/s, Reads speed at 5MB/s...so I tested with a
[DIGILIFE xD-SmartMedia Adpater]=

Image

Image

then I used a OLYMPUS H256MB Xd-Picture Card(TM) Model:M-XD256H, TYPE-H meaning higher speed, spec are: writes speed at 9MB/s, Reads speed at 15MB/s.....Don't use TYPE-M 256MB xD cards ..they do not work also there writes slower speed at 2.5MB/s, Reads speed at 4MB/s........and they do not format with Windows XP...ok to format these cards you just connect the MC-909 with USB cable, then you see on the screen pop up as Removable I:> drive. right click on this you then left click on FORMAT, you see size 249MB, then set File System at FAT, not on FAT32....then set at QUICK FORMAT ON WIN XP...I DON'T KNOW HOW ON A MAC Computer..... then hit [ok]...then from the PC copy your ROLAND & TEMP file to the xD-Smartmedia Adapter card.....well thats all....

**[UPDATE 09/07/2007 Friday 06:03 PM E.S.T.] I try to see if a xD H512MB card will work, I have tryed this already. But with no luck, since the MC-909 can load 272mb MAX (16mb+256mb) = 272mb - this will remain the MAX that this unit memory's can handle....it seem that by design this unit is limited to xD H256MB cards. Because of the O.S. ..., At one time the original maker's were getting ready to make a 256MB SMARTMEDIA Card...because of other FLASH CARDS on the market took over fast with better FLASH CARDS, this made it out dated fast, the SMARTMEDIA CARD Maker's TRASHED this idea. Too bad for us. Plus at least Roland Corp. was thinking ahead in the future, to be able to save your 272mb USER MEMORY to your DESKTOP OR NOTEBOOK COMPUTER,...Using your USB CONNECTION. And makeing your COMPUTER a EXTERNAL STORAGE BASE.**

***thanks for the help from the french web site http://www.mc909.org/, originally posted first in french by Nico a.k.a. nico909 on Roland Clan....[I don't know french, but I did my very best to try to translate this from the past posting info,...believe it or not] - translation here also http://errorprojects.com/mc-909/ <--"this site been down for awhile, But this is there sister web site from www.mc909.org, there still working on it to make it in ENGLISH - very soon".

....and thank you again Nico909......cause without you I would not have gone further and kept trying over and over on trail and error, to see if I can make this work......***

How to format an Xd card?

Several users, whose myself, had problems to format their Xd card.

It would seem that the 909 cannot do it... But a solution exists!

You need :

- Xd card,

- Xd / SM adapter

- smartmedia card (32Mb minimum)

- computer.

Once these elements joined together, the procedure is rather simple :

1. Format your SM card from your 909

2. Remove SM, and to replace it by Xd (with the adapter, of course)

3. Connect your 909 on computer by USB (MENU - USB - CARD)

4. Format your card from computer then disconnect (by swintching in pattern mode for ex.)

5. Remove your Xd card, then put your SM in

6. Connect your 909 to Computer

7. Copy ROLAND repertory from card to your computer, then disconnect

8. Put your Xd card in your 909 then connect to computer

9. Copy ROLAND directory in your Xd

VERY INTERESTING!! Unfortunately my 909's been collecting DUST since I bought my FANTOM X6! But that's an awesome trick you've found. Why can't you format the card IN the 909? Or CAN you :)

UPDATED 11/23/2006 THURSDAY

I tryed to format it from the MC-909 but it maybe that the OS in the MC-909 was never setup or programed yet for this..but the Unit is setup to be read from the Win XP, using the USB cable...for future Saving.......so the MC-909 can only format using the SmartMedia card......but when I connected as explained to me from the translated french web site http://errorprojects.com/mc-909 A.K.A. http://www.mc909.org/ .....Nico explain it...but everyone was having trouble, with the xd card....so this took me like two weeks to figure whats the problem.........I tryed the TYPE-M 256mb xD cards....but they came up with error...then I noticed when I bought the TYPE-H cards from http://www.Lexar.com there packages - are like labled on the back TYPE-M cards even when there lable as in the FRONT as TYPE-H...also its repackaged with the Olympus xD TYPE-H card, there gave me same error like the TYPE-M cards....... so I figure I tryed to buy it some were else were there not repackaged by some other company using there same Olympus cards...........so then I went to Brandsmart store thats in my area in South Florida[but you can get it from here directly https://emporium.olympus.com/innards/em ... 202030-410....they had the Olympus xD TYPE-H cards but in the Olympus Packaging]....other company just rebadged there cards....so i just figure I type the Original maker of the Olympus xD cards....In Europe they were knowed as Type-S...but in the USA confusing as it is...there the TYPE-M cards..........man this was a pain...I can see why everyone had problems...trying.....so I did not give up.......if someone said they work...then I had to just figure which one was right.........see attachment to look at the package...I will post more picture for new info:

****I HOPE THIS NEW INFO HELPS, TO ALL WHO HAS THE MC-909....we all need to support each other that still hanging on to our MC-909 OR OUR OLD EQUIPEMNT FROM ROLAND....cause ROLAND is not going to support us....hee hee!

THE MC-808 MAY HAVE SAME FEATURE LIKE THE MC-909, BUT ITS MOSTLY DESIGNED FOR PEOPLE WHO INTO USING SOFTWARE WITH THERE PC/Mac......PLUS ITS JUST THE CUT DOWN VERSION OF THE MC-909, JUST LIKE THE MC-307 WAS THE CUT DOWN VERSION OF THE MC-505.....I STILL HAVE MY [MC-202, R8m, MC-303 & DJ-70mkII with MC-50mkII <-- these you can say it is replaced with the MC-909 thats to show you how technology advances with power] AND I STILL HAVE NOT LET GO OF THEM.........I'M A LONG TIME USER OF HARDWARE & Drum Machines like the TR-808 & TR-909...SOFTWARE ARE COOL BUT AS A DEEJAY YOU NEED EQUIPMENT THAT ARE ABLE TO MAKE A BEAT'S IN 60SEC!!

NAW SERIOUS...JUST LIKE WHEN WE HAD THE TR-808, WE WERE MIXING BACK IN 1982 WITH ONE DRUM MACHINE AND TWO TURNTABLES....AND DOING ELECTRO-FUNK & RAP MUSIC.

OH I STILL USE cd's & dvd AND 12" RECORDS IN MY MIXES.....Roland I know you guys read this, don't think there's not enough people out here, like me, I still use hardware I suggest for the next [MC-909 MK II, make it more on the road use and travel form...like having a built-in 2GB Hard drive or other feature like the MV-8000 or just save your money guys and girls - and just get the MV-8000 v3.520 - I think Roland was already giving us, a big hint that this was there main bad boy on the market still....so to add more power to your MC-909 - then get the MV-8000 v3.520 or MV-8800]**** peace to everyone

How to format a Xd card:

Post by DJFLEX-mk2 »

UPDATED 11/23/2006 THURSDAY

Several users, whose myself, had problems to format their Xd chart.

It would seem that the 909 cannot do it… But a solution exists!

You need:

A H256MB Xd card,
A Xd adapter/SM
A Smartmedia (32Mb minimum)
A PC.

Once these joined together elements, the procedure is rather simple:

To format the Smartmedia card in the MC-909
To remove SM, and to replace it by H256MB Xd card(with the adapter, well on)
To connect the MC-909 to the PC by USB (FINELY - USB - CARD)
To format the card since the PC, then to disconnect (while returning in pattern mode, e.g.)
To remove Xd, and to give SM
To connect the MC-909 to the PC
To copy the ROLAND repertory of the card towards the office, then to disconnect

To give the Xd card, then Re-to connect to the PC
To copy the ROLAND repertory towards Xd
It is very simple, not?

I just did it and it works!
Good work Flex!

I cant see why 512 wouldn't work. The specs are exactly the same and I've noticed that even though I have had a full 128mb card for a while it only fills up a third of the ram no matter what patterns or patches I play. I dont know if that would translate into the 272mb ram being able to handle 3 times the files of a full 128mb card, that is 384 mb's.
That doesn't sound anywhere near logical, much like a lot of other (missing) features on this machine.

This tip brings me closer to what I really wanna do with the 909: make it rock solid (10 %) replacement for those treacherous laptops in the heated and humid live situation
Anyway, thanks...
