Yesterday, I unbagged my Jupiter 50 and didn't notice that the ON/OFF switch was ON when I plugged it in. The switch had been depressed to ON by the 'board resting on the switch, apparently.
After about an hour of playing, all of a sudden, only loud static was all that came out on each keypress. I shut it off, then on again, and all seemed well. It functioned fine. Settings were: 1/2 volume, no computer attached, outputs to main L/R jacks, using original equipment live set with unedited tones, all three keyboard parts running, USB stick installed.
So...was this "crash" I experienced possibly due to some damage I inflicted when I turned the 'board on without using the switch or was it just a coincidence? I've never had this type of crash occur on the Jupiter 50 (bought this past November), and never on a two-year old Juno Gi. (The Gi did emit a distorted sound once, which also was eliminated after rebooting it.)
Did I mess up my $2000 baby or was the crash a random event that eventually befalls all computer-like devices?

The same thing happened to me except for the static. I unboxed the 50, plugged it in, and found that the ON switch was already pushed in. Fortunately, I've played it for several hours afterward and have had no problems.
I bet it's just a "one off" thing and you'll be fine.
We all get nervous when we get a new instrument.

I guess silence from the Forum means I did no harm.
I wish this Forum was more lively...but I guess that could start another thread. Jupiter 80 forum is jumpin'...why not this one?
Best....
