Placing phrases into a song by live play

Hi all,

I'm a new Fantom G owner and enjoying learning the ropes.

The question I have is about placing MIDI phrases into a song. I know how to do this by manually inserting phrases one by one, copying/moving etc.

I wonder whether it is also possible to "play" phrases into a song by the keyboard or pads to achieve the same result?

I've done some experiments using RPS and I find that what I play is recorded as MIDI notes into a new phrase, rather than placing instances of the original phrase into the timeline.

I hope I've explained it clearly enough. Still getting to terms with the terminology.
