Can I use the FA keyboard to play my Microfreak or Circuit Tracks?
Can I use the FA keyboard to play my Microfreak or Circuit Tracks? I also have a Roland A-49 mid keyboard and it plays both with no problems. I can't seem to hook these up to the FA at all with either the USB port through my desktop or directly through the MIDI ports. I can play Melodics and instruments in Ableton Live just fine with the FA.

Hi,
The simple answer is yes and its usually easy to play an external instrument. I presume you are using the mid out directly from the FA into say the Microfreak midi in. On the FA scroll across to the Master Keyboard 1 of 2 screen. Here is where you set which of the 16 channels you want to output midi data on to match which ever channels on the Microfreak you want to play. In the first column PTX ( which is short for Transmit ) you have a choice of 3 settings. OFF=Don't transmit this channel; On=Transmit on this channel: MKB= Master Keyboard). Master Keyboard both will transmit the notes you play but will also act as a patch setting function to select the actual sound/patch you want it to find/play on the Microfreak. To do the selection you need to complete the MSB, LNB and PC reference numbers. So, simply with this set to ON, it should work if you just want a note for note transfer. If you just want to play the FA keyboard but without the FA sounds you need to turn the SW switch off for the respective track. You can of course get very clever and pick and mix potentially all 16 tracks. There might be other settings stopping this working but this may well be all you need to look at?

I'm a little late coming back to this post, but I have managed to play my Microfreak with my FA-06. I have been able to distinguish a few different functions, like keeping the local synth and only playing the Microfreak, but I don't recognize any of the options you are talking about. Are you sure you are looking at an FA-06? Could you go through a menu dive to get to what you are looking at to make sure we are on the same machine?
