sorry, I wanted to point out this contest Roland UK was running. It might be bad enough that a Vpiano card was released for the RD700GX- but they are also asking RD users what they would like to see in a future SRX card. Funny, no Fantom G ARX contests (nor Sonic Cell/Juno normal SRX contests). I wonder why so much love for the RD700GX.

I have my G and its pretty much here for the long hall..
I dont see myself investing in any more new roland gear.
I already have the V synth GT and original V fantom x and G..
there is pretty much nothing that cannot be achieved with this collection..
As i said before the best way to shop for roland gear is..
look at all roland gear that is at least 3 years old and more,
all the product testing and flaws bugs etc will be fully documented
Your purchase will be a well informed one so if you do decide to get one you already know what to expect and will be getting a fully mature end product.
at this point you get what you purchase and dont have to worry about future update because you know there wont be any..
Jumping on the latest roland gear in the future is really for people that have too much money to dispose of and only care about the here and now an not the future.
Now lets all go back to making music and forget technology..

Re: The Fantom G NOTHING experience has just stepped over th
Hey guys,
I was away for a bit - and got back a few days ago - thought Id check up on my buddies here at the clan
!
And, things dont seem to have changed much - Still the same 'No update yet Roland?!!' war going on. Well actually there's 2 FantomG forums, since I left
. The one on Facebook and this one. To jessej, Shakil, Jim - and all those who contribute there - excellent work (unbiased FG site) - seems to be be a good site with lot of good (and bad) information regarding the FantomG experience. Wish the media was like that sometimes
!
Anyway - Im quite convinced that Roland did what they did for a good reason, and Im sure that the recession had everything to do with it. Lots of people lost their jobs, including developers, testers etc. etc. - somehow - selling an unhealthy number of keyboards on which a lot of R&D $'s were spent, does not build a strong case for retaining jobs, does it? Obviously, when positions are eliminated, the production line suffers, does it not?
So everyone who thinks that Roland did what they did because they dont give a $hit, please think again, because Im sure that there's a very good reason for this. Now everyone who thinks that the FantomG is severely lacking, here's something for you -
ARR in the studio
OK, not the best demo for the FG, but you've gotta think - he's probably scored a couple of movies in the past year
, and not bothered about the limitations of his instrument(s) - Man, that Haaken continuum is so cool - I wish I had the money to buy that
!
Now for all of you who still think that the FG is severely lacking - you probably bought the promise of an instrument, and not an instrument, which is why you feel that you're limited by the FG.
Roland has touched my life in more than one way (as it has in all your cases), and I was, and still continue to be a big fan of this company - because let's face it - you've gotta really use a Korg or a Yammie to know what Im talking about - I have an M3 - and I love it to death too
but nothing beats my trusty old FantomX6, or my beloved GT-8 guitar pedal - Roland Rocks my world - and my audience - and Im thankful for that! It's simply a joy to write on my X6 - yes, I love it more than my shiny new 17" MacbookPro, which I bought this christmas (Upgraded from a 6 year old 15" Powerbook
very cool machine also) - because I was reasonably convinced that there wouldnt be any christmas presents from Roland this year. My M3, my new MBP, My FantomX6 and my 3 year old rule my life currently
(Yes, my wife tries sometimes too), and I've been quite happy and writing like crazy.
I still continue to wait for when the G is simply the best keyboard out there - ***AND does everything that I want it to do***, and then I will replace my X6 with it
! I decided to skip the next generation Roland guitar fx processor as well (for the same reasons) - since both the VG-99 or the GT-10 dont give me at least a 150% gain over what I have currently. You wont find me buying the 'promise' of something over the real thing, nuff said.
Not trying to poke fun at anyone, adopt a 'holier than thou' stance, or make an 'I told you so' speech - but I sincerely believe that the G is pretty good at what it does - and judging from what it can do currently, you should still be able to use it to make some very cool music.
I used to enjoy going to the 'post your music' section here as people used to post a lot of music in there - but of late it's been mostly posts about the FantomG lacking this or the FG lacking that.
Anyway - - Manish over and out
!
Manish.

"did what they did because they dont give a $hit, "
I we know that's not the reason, but people are fooled the glamor of it all and for some reason always putting there faith that a new firmware will come and fix everything..
Not realizing that the only motivation any company has to make a new firmware is either bad press or bad sales because of the current one is so bad..
Customer loyalty play very little in the future development of a current product.
I think we may get 1 more update if we are lucky but that will be it and just to put a smile on peoples faces they will call it OS 2.0
When will this be.. i dont think even roland know the answer to this one..

Fantom Boss,
I would not say the X or the G are better. They are just different.
As I'm also doing live gigs I can't live without the X (+SRX's) but the G gives my setup a little extra.
Makes me wonder why Roland stopeed the Fantom X series.

Re: The Fantom G NOTHING experience has just stepped over th
Yep i agree with u in full, the fantom G stuff big disapointment, oh well it is what it is! No more roland gear for me either stick with software, all the Techno big producers were right, the hardware support sucks!
Re: The Fantom G NOTHING experience has just stepped over th
I was also disappointed with the absence of any high-end keyboard from Roland. What I need as a live gigging musician is the full sound quality and keyboard control functions of the "G", without that massive display and the sequencing and sampling. The Junos are dumb ed-down versions of Roland's flagship. None of them meet my needs. What we could be witnessing is the end of the hardware workstation era. The most innovative products seem to be coming from Korg and Kurzweil. That's where I'm looking. Roland could have released a series of three keyboards - 61, 76, and 88 - versions of the Fantom-G without the massive display, sequencing and sampling. Truthfully I feel the display dwarfs the rest of the keyboard and looks weird, especially on the 61. As someone who has to move his own keyboard on certain gigs, I am very wary of such a display getting damaged. I pass on that count alone.
So we have Roland still with the "G" - not completely unrealistic - it's only been out for a few years, Yamaha with the Motif XS, neither company having updated their flagship workstation. At least Yamaha has released the S series which are sort of players' workstations. But nothing like that from Roland.
For me, as someone who would love to ditch the keyboard + module rig for live gigs, I'm now looking at the Korg M-50s or the Kurzweil PCs. Truthfully I could do real well with a Roland Fantom-X 76, but I don't buy used keyboards for my professional work.
Like the typewriter, I think everyone has now moved to the computer for at least some of their music production. Hence what we need are hardware keyboards that are designed for live playing and which integrate totally with the computer. Alas we see nothing like this from Roland.
As a long-time Roland user, having purchased many Roland products, I still see that company as an aircraft carrier amidst a sea of lighter more nimble craft. They seem completely unable to turn the ship even a few degrees. If it weren't for Artemiy and this site, there would be very little Roland community. Sad. A great company living in the past from my perspective.

Ok! disappointed but its ok, V-combo is not bad at all. So that's the new gear I am recommending for my church. I can see why now and I hope they make a Supernatural version of it with same thing. OK 181 days counting. This time I am focusing on V-combo so I can get disappointing with it which may spell out FG stuff. :DD now I see how they play..

Re: The Fantom G NOTHING experience has just stepped over th
Most indian music composers have a Roland Fantom X or a Fantom G as their main workstation (look up the pics of the studios).
Rahman had a Fantom S, then he must have gotten the X and then moved to the G.
I think the skip back sampling has something to do with it. Also notice the KORG OASYS in his studio!!!
Google himesh reshmaiyya....a lot of his songs have patches straight from the FanX.
I'm just really glad and thankful that I didn't buy the whole "need to get the latest" trend. I'm as happy as I can be with my Fantom S. Would love audio tracks on it, but its not a showstopper at all. I feel bad for those who got the G and felt ripped off. I hope roland makes the G as solid as a workstation as the FanX or XV5080 was.
